Office for International Students and Scholars Check-In and Orientation
Within 15 days of arrival, come to the OISS, with your immigration documents, to check in and complete J-1 program orientation.
Checking-in provides us the necessary information to validate your arrival in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
Orientation provides you with immigration information you need to know to ensure you maintain legal status.
Both of these tasks can be completed at the same time on either the Danforth or Medical School campus.
Please note advance registration is required and must be made online at J1Orientation.eventbrite.com.
You are not eligible to apply for a Social Security Number until you have:
- Been in the U.S. at least 10 business days and
- Been validated in SEVIS
